John Baraniak

Graduating class of 1981

Few who knew John Baraniak during his time at Central would be surprised that the promise he demonstrated during his high school years has been realized. A top student then, he has achieved enviable success in his chosen profession while devoting considerable attention to serving his community. While at Central, John was editor-in-chief of The Little Green, and he was a member of the tennis team. He was also graduated near the top of his class. Moving from the Little Green to the Big Green in 1981, John attended Dartmouth and was graduated cum laude in 1985. Three years later, he earned his juris doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School. John spent over a quarter of a century as an associate and partner at two of the country's most storied law firms, Ropes and Gray and Choate, Hall, and Stewart. Since 2015, he has served as in-house counsel to Inspire Marketing Partners, a Boston-based marketing and product development consulting company. John's career is notable for its focus on providing access to legal services to those with limited resources. He headed Choate, Hall and Stewart's probono program for many years, overseeing 65 attorneys working on behalf of indigent clients. He also devotes energy and expertise to Citizen Schools, a national afterschool enrichment apprenticeship program for inner-city middle school students. John's Central roots run deep. His mother, Eleanor, and his sister, Kristin, were beloved members of the English department for many years.
